Hello Windows Insiders! We’re excited to release the first Windows 11 Insider Preview to the Developer Channel! As we complete the product over the coming months, we will work with you to validate the experience. You’ll be able to try out many, but not all, of the new features we showed you last week in this early preview. We’ll be adding more features like chat with Microsoft Teams and Android apps to the Microsoft Store over the coming months as they’re ready for you – we’re just starting this journey together!

Changes and Improvements –

– [General]
Windows 11 is moving from Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) to voice access. WSR is discontinued. When you open WSR, you’ll get a dialog saying you can try voice access, and they’ve also added a banner under Settings > Availability > Talk like They. Voice Access, our new assistive technology in Windows 11, uses speech recognition built into your device, allowing you to control your computer and create text without an Internet connection. In the next update, it will support multiple languages and custom commands (these features are now available for Windows Insiders to try in the Beta channel, as mentioned above). They recommend that WSR users try and start using voice access today.

– [Nearby Sharing]
They’re introducing the ability to quickly give your device a more friendly name to identify a share with and from nearby sharing in Settings > System > Sharing nearby.
Give your device a friendlier name to identify sharing to and from nearby sharing.

– [Narrator]
Narrator users can now use voice access to open applications, dictate text, and interact with elements on the screen using their voice. Narrator users can use voice access to give Narrator commands using their voice. For example, “speak faster”, “read the next line”, etc. To get started, search for “voice access” in Windows search and set it up.

Corrections –

– [Task Manager]
When creating a process dump file, the location of the dump file must now be selectable before it can be copied.

– [Desktops]
Made some improvements to help resolve an issue where the background could jump when switching to BetTheyen desktops
