Three members of a large Afghan family begin their lives as refugees in Iran, unaware that they will face a decades-long struggle to be “at home.” I watched this at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Told in three stories, "In the Land of Brothers" manages to capture the essence, complications, and heartbreaking scenarios of political conflict, relationships, culture, and the harshness of reality. The filmmakers were able to capture the themes, tone, and writing of each of the three stories with good feelings, interesting characters, and moments that felt tense and depressing without feeling overbearing. Each character and writing is handled maturely. and all of the performances from the actors are good. Really brought out the emotions between the characters and the core of the film’s message and purpose. The camerawork, production design, and soundtrack are beautiful. There were moments that were touching and I became sad while watching it. Personally, the first and third stories are still the most impressive. Although the second one has some mistakes in pacing, it was still good. Overall, the film strives as another good Iranian film.
