This show has only the most tangential relationship to the original series
Chronology
Follow Madeline Matlock as she rejoins the workforce of a prestigious law firm, where she uses her cunning tactics to win cases and expose wrongdoing. A gender-swapped remake of the original 1986 TV series of the same name, Matlock (1986), starring Andy Griffith in the lead role of criminal defense attorney Ben Matlock.
This would have verified identity, address, current license status, disciplinary actions, etc
For legal reasons, they had to give Dean Hargrove a “based on the Matlock series” credit. In order for Matlock to be hired by a New York law firm, they would have had to verify her law license through one of three official mechanisms, each of which is carefully administered by the state.
Remake of Matlock (1986)
I really found this show irritating and a bit sloppy in its presentation. They cancelled the clever So Help Me Todd for this one.
I like Kathy Bates, but this character is pathetic and boring
I also found the lead attorney, Skye Marshall, to be an unlikable character and her acting was mediocre and one-dimensional. The entire cast of characters is very stereotypical and of course the diversity hits you in the face.
Jason Ritter is lost in this mess and Beau Brooks must really need work
I was hoping this would be a winner, but the manic, choppy camera work and amateurish direction kill this one for me.
